Member Bio Questionnaire
Date: 12/2702
Name: Camille (Cami) Smouse
Male/Female: F
Age Group: 30-34
Occupation: I was previously a bank teller
manager over 15 tellers, but after the birth of my son I'm now a stay at
home mother and studying for my PT certification with an emphasis on
prenatal, perinatal and postnatal exercise.
Where do you live: We are located in Las Cruces,
NM.
Single or Family, if Family, how large: I have been
married for 8.5 years to my best friend, Gary. We have an extremely active
and gorgeous 23-month-old son, Jacob, who already likes athletic events such
as basketball, baseball, foot races and loves the water.
Years in Triathlon: I finished my first triathlon in
April of 2002.
Short paragraph of Triathlon background to include how long you have been
doing triathlons, maybe some names of races you've been in, any top finishes?
I finished my first triathlon and distance running season in 2002
with six 5K runs (three 1st overall, two 1st and one 3rd); two 8Kruns (two
1st); two 10K runs (two 4th); and 5 SW Series Races which included the White
Sands Duathlon - 2nd, MVTC Triathlon (my first ever) - 3rd, Burn Lake Duathlon
- 2nd, Los Alamos Triathlon - 4th, and the White Sands Yucca Duathlon - 2nd.
Big race(s) of the year: Being a new multi
sport athlete all the events I entered were big races, and the challenge and
experiences of crossing the finish line 1st or last were all magnificent.
Favorite Race(s): Love the races held at White
Sands, they are so organized, fun and the after event meal is wonderful.
Favorite Training Route: Love the 3-5
mile hilly run by my house, followed by a 24/25 mile bike ride up the
Soledad Canyon Mountain.
One piece of advice: A ship which never leaves the
harbor will never accomplish anything, so shove off and go for it!
Funniest thing that has happened to you during a race:
It had to be one of three things, tripping over my own feet while
running, trying to run with a pebble in my shoe, or forgetting to leave my
goggles at the transition area - ended up running about a mile with them on my
forehead before I realized they were there.
Best excuse for a bad performance: Bad training, a
bad morning.
Favorite after race recovery food: Pasta of any
kind.
Dedications: To my friends, Kate and Jules who
have helped me find my inner spirit and strength through the love of running,
biking, swimming and the multi sport. Thanks so much, you've changed my life
forever. Also to my husband for his never ending love and support.
Short paragraph about life outside of triathlons:
I'm involved with many volunteer activities for my community. Love to jet
ski, hike, read, a movie & popcorn at the theater, sharing time with friends
and family who are the most important aspects of my daily life.
